How did this practice begin?

Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese monk, was initiated to Reiki in the early 20th century.  There is much information readily available about him, the process that began his initiation, and the clinic that he established in Japan.   Also, about his pupil and the students that she mentored and initiated.

For our purposes, it is important to know that this knowledge has been passed down from master to student to this day in ethical and responsible ways.  There are various levels of training and usually a lengthy practicum in between each level.  Reiki training includes a process called attunement, in which a master performs a procedure to open up the student's energy system to increased energy flow and power.  It is this type of training that initiated practitioners at Soul Attention.

Reiki Principles of Usui

I give thanks for my many blessings

Just for today, I will not anger

Just for today, I will not worry

I will do my work honestly

I will be kind to people and every living thing

Reiki & Chakras

"Reiki" itself is a Japanese term meaning universal (Rei) life force (Ki).

Ki refers to the life-giving energy within all that is created.  It is a healing energy that "knows where it needs to go" in order to benefit the client.  It is also known as, God-Energy.

Reiki can be used to accelerate the healing of injuries and recovery from illness, and can be used to accompany any other health care treatment or spiritual intervention.

While Reiki is based on spiritual principles, it has been validated by scientific studies, and exists in the cutting edge between spiritual awareness and scientific practice.

Although Dr. Usui did not speak of "chakras" when he passed on his knowledge, Reiki is often practiced today with a mindful awareness of these energy centers.
